Goonhilly secures first major customer

The efforts of Goonhilly Earth Station (GES) Ltd to transform Goonhilly has taken another leap forward with GES confirming they have signed a contract with one of the world’s largest satellite communications providers - SES.

GES Ltd have secured business with this corporate giant to provide a variety of satellite services. These services will start almost immediately and will be added to under a framework contract arrangement.

Ian Jones, CEO of GES Ltd said “This is brilliant news. This new business is very important. We are continuing to develop business at Goonhilly and following on from our recent contract to work with a number of Universities this represents the first satellite communications business we have secured. SES is a very well respected industry player, and we are delighted to be able to facilitate its satellite service needs from Goonhilly. ”

Mike Noon, Vice President Ground Infrastructure at SES said “We are delighted to conclude this business with GES Ltd and we look forward to a long and successful working relationship with them at Goonhilly. We are also pleased to support GES with their plans for transforming Goonhilly and look forward to exploring the new opportunities this will present. ”

As part of their ongoing transformation of Goonhilly, GES will continue to develop the space communications capability by upgrading the Antennas and will also develop a new space themed visitor centre – with a target of opening in time for Goonhilly and Telstar’s 50th Anniversary this summer.
