Relocator Praises Business Support in Cornwall

The I'd Rather Be in Cornwall Club has welcomed another group of businesses keen to move to Cornwall.  The event was again held in the stylish One Aldwych hotel in central London, where Sarah Trethowan, director of TRAC described her own experiences of relocating to the county to an audience eager to escape the recession-hit south east for a more positive lifestyle.  'It's really encouraging that businesses still retain the optimism to make the move to the county, despite the poor economic situation. In fact, many believe that Cornwall is one of the best places to ride out the recession, with its unique combination of comprehensive business support and beautiful scenery", said Helen Trudgeon of Cornwall Pure Business.

Sarah Trethowan and her husband Jonathan established their regulatory affairs consultancy from scratch over 8 years ago.  Now employing 11 people and serving the healthcare and pharmaceuticals sector, Sarah admitted that building up a successful business was not always straightforward or easy.  However, through a combination of their own hard work and determination, working initially from their own spare room, they now boast a client list of multinational pharmaceutical companies.  Sarah also ascribed part of their success to the availability of quality business support in Cornwall, assisting them with recruitment (Unlocking Cornish Potential), IT systems (Actnow) and general support, including networking, marketing and PR (Cornwall Pure Business).  Without this level of support, TRAC would have found the challenge of establishing a new business even more daunting. "I thoroughly enjoyed the event and found the enthusiasm of the people who attended really encouraging.  Making any sort of major change is never easy but I truly believe that the quality of support available in Cornwall at the moment is world class and as such will make the move easier and ultimately a successful life changing decision. We definitely don't regret the move and are now reaping the rewards of working and living in such an inspiring location on a daily basis."

The event was co-sponsored by Newquay Cornwall Airport, who took the opportunity to announce the introduction of a new twice daily route to London's City Airport operated by Air Southwest, targeted specifically at the business community.  This was warmly welcomed by the audience as it confirms that Cornwall is the place to do business. Karen Medweth, Newquay Cornwall Airport's Head of Commercial Development, said "Now with up to 10 daily flights to London from Newquay this demonstrates our commitment to providing business travellers with viable routes to key financial centres. London City Airport is an important route into the UK's main financial district and can also provide onward connections to Europe's key commercial cities."
