European Press Tour

Journalists from a number of European newspaper and magazines travelled to Cornwall on the 16th of October to look at the county's growing Marine Technology and offshore energy industries.

The event, facilitated by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and InvestinCornwall (UK and Europe), gave journalists a whirlwind tour of several locations of interest.  They started the day with a boat tour to the site of the PRIMaRE wave testing buoy, followed by a trip to Falmouth Docks.  At the Docks they viewed the Dynamic Marine Component Test Facility (DMAC).  Designed by the PRIMaRE team, this facility - the first of its kind in the world - will allow wave energy device developers to identify potential engineering problems and refine their designs.

The journalists also received a tour of Falmouth Docks led by Amanda Pound, the Marine Renewables Service Manager, who spoke to them about Dock's potential in the manufacture, repair and storage for offshore energy devices.    After a quick lunch the journalists visited the Wave Hub substation and met with the wave energy leaders of tomorrow - students from Plymouth Universities masters degree course in Marine Renewable Energy.  They also spoke to Guy Lavender, the Wave Hub MD, about what the wave hub means for Cornwall and wave energy in general.

Journalists then visited the Fugro Seacore site to hear about their work in the offshore renewables industry and onto Marine Design Ltd where they viewed their pontoon access systems.

The event was a great success with a great deal of positive press generated by the journalists for their perspective publications.
