Wales now only half an hour from Cornwall thanks to Air Southwest

Wales is now only half an hour from Cornwall thanks to new flights from regional airline Air Southwest, as flights between Newquay and Cardiff are scheduled to begin running early in the New Year.

Speaking to Business Cornwall, Al Titterington, managing director of Newquay Cornwall Airport said: "The introduction of Air Southwest's Newquay to Cardiff service is positive news for the airport and Cornwall, meaning South Wales will be more accessible for both leisure and business passengers alike. It demonstrates Air Southwest's commitment to developing air services to and from Cornwall's Airport and will complement its existing schedule from Newquay."

Patrick Duffy, managing director at Cardiff Airport, echoes this excitement, and stated: "We're pleased to have Air Southwest at Cardiff and with them a new service to Newquay. The service offers a real alternative to the long journeys by rail and road, which is good news for both leisure and business passengers in South Wales and Cornwall."

Hywel Thomas, a spokesperson for Cardiff & Co, which promotes the city in the UK and abroad pointed out:  "The new route announced by Air Southwest will create a shrinking of the geographical map between Cardiff and Newquay. It will mean that people living in Cardiff will be able to pop over to Cornwall for a weekend break."

"This air link has the potential to develop new partnership between the regions that will hopefully bring economic benefits for both areas, in terms of tourism and investment."

Air Southwest is launching a daily service from Newquay to Cardiff on January 4 next year. Seats are already on sale at www.airsouthwest.com
