Cornwall Sustainability Awards

07.09.11

Environmentally friendly and sustainable businesses from across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly can now apply to enter the 2011 Cornwall Sustainability Awards 2010.
Anthony Weight, Cornwall Council's sustainable development officer and event organiser, told the West Briton: "We're really pleased to announce the ninth Cornwall Sustainability Awards.

"Cornwall is at the cutting edge of sustainable development and this year has seen a rise in awareness of the role Cornwall has to play through initiatives such as renewable energy development.

"The recent announcement of the £20 million solar fund highlights that.

"But it's more than renewal energy. These awards have a phenomenal track record of success in highlighting the best managed businesses operating in the area, with a large number of our winners going on to be highlighted as national exemplars within their sectors."

The seven categories are:

Best Managed Company (Small, Medium and Large)

Low Carbon Business

Resource Management

Products and Services

Best Individual

Healthy Workplace

Sustainable Construction

Overall Winner Award

The Environment Agency's Gitty Ankers MBE, who is a co-organiser of the event, said: "The awards grow in stature every year.

"Last year we saw record entries and it was incredibly tough to judge, which shows how well businesses in Cornwall have embraced sustainability and the benefits that it can bring."
