Marketing and PR for Small Businesses

On the 12 December Cornwall Pure Business held its seventh (and final) Breakfast Briefing for 2008. These popular events aim to provide Cornish business owners with tools they can use to help their business grow.

The event - Marketing and PR for the Small Business - was originally going to be presented by Lyn File, but unfortunately Lyn fell ill a couple of days beforehand and was unable to make it.  We were very happy (and lucky) that Tim Bowcock was able to step in at the eleventh hour as facilitator.

Tim has spent many years in PR and now runs his own successful PR company, Black Cat PR, based in Truro. In his earlier career he worked for Pirate FM and BBC Cornwall and travelled the country working as a BBC producer and TV researcher. He has worked for First Great Western in public relations and as their communications manager, and has a portfolio covering media relations, internal communications, event management and public affairs.

At the Breakfast Briefing, held at the Hall for Cornwall, Tim talked about ways for businesses to maximise their potential in times of economic hardship. He used examples of previous PR and marketing campaigns to show the importance of the local print, radio and television media when marketing one's business. He also touched on understanding a client's profile - working out who 'you' as a business are selling to.

Cornwall Pure Business would like to thank Tim for his informative presentation and for filling in for Lyn at such short notice. We're happy to report that Lyn has now made a full recovery!
