C.A.T. Limited has been manufacturing specialist flooring accessories for 22 years. Based in Luton, Bedfordshire the company produce profiles for all types of flooring including vinyl, timber, ceramics and carpet. They also supply the flooring and building trade throughout the UK and overseas. A strong emphasis is on the supply of a bespoke service, which is very popular with architects and designers.

With the business needing to expand its plastics division a decision was taken by Managing Director Paul Hayden in late 2006 to locate an extrusion and injection moulding facility in Hayle, Cornwall. Paul explains "I have always loved Cornwall and when we began investigation options for expansion we decided to see if opening an operation in Cornwall was viable."

A suitable factory was purchased in January 2007 and work started in earnest to fit out for manufacturing. They received a great deal of assistance from a number of local businesses in the fit out, particularly Mr Tony Coyle of Coyle Building Company.

"Relocating any business has its challenges and we had very specific requirements for our site, so it was essential that local suppliers delivered to our spec. We have been delighted with the end result," said Paul. 

There is still more work to do as the plastics side of the business grows but there is good team spirit in the new factory and all employees feel working and living in Cornwall is a great way of life. With many plastic products already in production at Hayle and new designs under development C.A.T look forward to further success in this beautiful part of the country.

Employment

The Hayle factory already employs six persons with plans to recruit more members of staff to a level of fifteen employees over the next eighteen months.

Responsibility for day to day operations is rests with C.A.T's technical plastics manager Joe Higgins with support from Rus Burden. Both men relocated their families to set up the business.
